Here's a shot of three members of our band, North Of Malibu, with The King after a show. The three of us in the picture with Dick are all instructors in Kenpo Karate at the same dojo, Redwood Empire Martial Arts, in Santa Rosa, California. Joseph, our friend and bass player, was at the show, but is not in the picture. |

The band formed quite by accident as I have trained with Rob for about a dozen years, but never knew he played drums. We did a few jams and started to put together a set list, heavy with Dick Dale covers. Our set list now is made up of 80% surf with a little punkabilly and good ol' rock 'n' roll.

Guitars are Fenders (what else). Amps include a '60s Dual Showman and a '60s blonde piggy back Bandmaster with outboard reverbs. We hope to be playing as many bowling alleys and car shows as we can. |

The style of martial arts we study is American Kenpo. If you look at the front of Dick's guitar you'll see a Kenpo sticker. During the '60s and '70s, Dick was a student of the late Ed Parker, Jr., the "Father of American Karate". Mr. Parker opened the first Karate school in the US in Pasadena, California. He taught many students, including Elvis. I was fortunate enough to meet him in 1965. The first time I saw Dick play was in 1964. All this stuff seems to come around...
